Description
These vibrant, glossy, and delicious candy apples are made with melted Jolly Ranchers, creating an eye-catching neon effect. Perfect for parties, Halloween, or just a fun treat, these candy apples are as fun to make as they are to eat!
Ingredients
Candy Coating
- 12 Jolly Rancher candies (assorted neon colors) per apple
- ¼ cup light corn syrup
- ¼ cup water
- 1 cup granulated sugar
Apples & Tools
- 6 Granny Smith apples (or any firm apple)
- 6 wooden skewers or lollipop sticks
- Cooking spray or parchment paper
Instructions
-
Prepare the Apples
Wash and dry apples thoroughly, then remove stems. Insert wooden skewers into the top of each apple and set aside on a parchment-lined tray. -
Melt the Jolly Ranchers
In a heavy-bottom saucepan over medium heat, combine Jolly Ranchers, corn syrup, water, and sugar. Stir occasionally until the candies are completely melted and the mixture reaches 300°F (hard crack stage) on a candy thermometer. -
Dip the Apples
Quickly dip each apple into the melted candy mixture, tilting and twirling to coat evenly. Let excess drip off before placing them on the prepared parchment paper. -
Let Them Set
Allow the apples to cool completely at room temperature for about 30 minutes, or until the candy shell hardens.
-
Serve & Enjoy!
Once set, serve immediately or wrap them individually in wax paper for storage.
Notes
- Best Apples: Granny Smith apples provide a tart contrast to the sweet candy coating, but Honeycrisp or Fuji apples also work well.
- Color Variations: Mix different Jolly Rancher flavors for a unique neon effect.
- Storage Tip: Store in a cool, dry place. Do not refrigerate, as moisture can cause the candy shell to become sticky.
