For the Chicken
- 2 large boneless, skinless chicken breasts (halved lengthwise)
- 1 cup all-purpose flour
- 2 large eggs
- 2 tbsp milk
- 1 ½ cups Italian-style breadcrumbs
- ½ cup grated Parmesan cheese
- 1 tsp garlic powder
- 1 tsp dried oregano
- ½ tsp salt
- ½ tsp black pepper
- ½ cup vegetable oil (for frying)
For Assembly
- 4 hoagie rolls or sub buns
- 1 ½ cups marinara sauce
- 1 ½ cups shredded mozzarella cheese
- ½ cup grated Parmesan cheese
- 1 tbsp fresh basil (chopped)
- 2 tbsp butter (melted, for toasting buns)

Prepare the Chicken
Pound the chicken breasts to an even thickness and season with salt and pepper. -
Set Up the Breading Station
Place flour in one shallow dish. In another, whisk together eggs and milk. In a third, mix breadcrumbs, Parmesan cheese, garlic powder, oregano, salt, and pepper. -
Bread the Chicken
Dredge each chicken piece in flour, dip into the egg mixture, and coat thoroughly in the breadcrumb mixture, pressing firmly to adhere. -
Fry the Chicken
Heat oil in a skillet over medium heat. Fry chicken for 3–4 minutes per side until golden brown and cooked through (internal temp: 165°F). Transfer to a wire rack. -
Melt the Cheese
Preheat the oven to 400°F. Place chicken on a baking sheet, spoon marinara sauce over each piece, and top with mozzarella and Parmesan cheese. Bake for 5 minutes or until cheese is melted and bubbly. -
Toast the Buns
Brush hoagie rolls with melted butter and toast in the oven for 2–3 minutes until golden brown. -
Assemble the Sandwiches
Place the cheesy chicken on the toasted buns. Sprinkle with fresh basil, close the sandwiches, and serve warm.

- Air Fryer Option: Cook the breaded chicken at 375°F for 12–15 minutes, flipping halfway through.
- Extra Crunch: Double-coat the chicken for an ultra-crispy crust.
