Description

A tender, buttery coffee cake with a sweet cinnamon-sugar swirl running through the center and on top. This Amish Cinnamon Sugar Coffee Cake is simple to make, beautifully nostalgic, and perfect with a cup of warm amish coffee. Whether served for breakfast, brunch, or dessert, it’s always a cozy crowd-pleaser.

Ingredients

For the Cake:

  • ½ cup (1 stick) unsalted butter, softened

  • 1 cup granulated sugar

  • 2 large eggs

  • 1 cup plain yogurt or sour cream

  • 1 teaspoon pure vanilla extract

  • 2 cups all-purpose flour

  • 1 teaspoon baking powder

  • ½ teaspoon baking soda

  • ½ teaspoon salt

For the Cinnamon Sugar Topping:

  • ¼ cup granulated sugar

  • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon

Instructions

  • Preheat the Oven
Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease an 8×8-inch baking dish or line it with parchment paper for easy removal.

  • Make the Cake Batter
In a large bowl, whisk together flour, sugar, baking powder, and salt. Add in the eggs, milk, melted butter, and vanilla extract. Mix until just combined and smooth—do not overmix.

  • Prepare the Cinnamon Sugar Mixture
In a small bowl, combine brown sugar and ground cinnamon. Set aside.

  • Layer the Batter and Cinnamon Sugar
Pour half of the cake batter into your prepared pan. Sprinkle half of the cinnamon sugar evenly over the batter. Repeat with the remaining batter and cinnamon sugar.

  • Swirl and Bake
Use a butter knife to gently swirl the top cinnamon sugar into the batter. Bake for 30–35 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean.

  • Cool and Serve
Let the cake cool for at least 15 minutes before slicing. Serve warm or at room temperature with a cozy cup of amish coffee.
